Aspire PFC (Aspire Powerchair Football Club) was formed in 2002. Powerchair Football was introduced to the UK by Hiroshi Takahashi from Japan. He demonstrated Powerchair Football at Aspire Rehabilitation Center at RNOH Stanmore; this is where Powerchair Football in the UK was born.
Aspire PFC hosted the first ever tournament and finished runners up to MYPC (Middlesex Young Peoples Club).
Since the first tournament players representing Aspire PFC decided to continue to train together. A second tournament was then held at Treloars College. The Football Association then took more of an interest in the sport and decided to set up the WFA (Wheelchair Football Association) in 2004. Aspire PFC was the first member of the WFA, meaning Aspire was the first official, ever club in the UK.
Between 2002 – 2005, more clubs were formed throughout the country and powerchair football became more and more popular. The WFA decided then to create a National League in 2006. This League was split up into 2 pools where the top two team would progress to the semi-final and final. Aspire PFC won this unbeaten.
The 2007/08 season saw the National League split up into two divisions, the Premiership and the Championship. Aspire PFC won the Premiership unbeaten, making them the first Premiership champions. They attended the first ever powerchair football Champions League, where many teams across Europe battle it out for the number one spot and trophy. The team also hosted the 2nd Champions League at Stoke Mandeville in Aylesbury.
Since the beginning of The WFA leagues, Aspire PFC have been the most successful team, winning the premiership division a record breaking 8 times, Disability FA Cup 7 times and the only UK team to win The EPFA Champions League Cup. Aspire notably have many individually successful players, many throughout the years have played for England.
